The demand for black models is not proportionate to the population. It’s absolutely a fact that the opportunities still are not fair. A lot better than in the past, but still not an even playing field.

Ugh. Everyone is always complaining about something. Models are too skinny. Models are too fat. Blah,blah. Quite honestly, the emphasis should be on how well a model does the job and how well she photographs doing that job. I am so tired of hearing about black people complaining about how come there aren’t enough black people in this or that where fashion or some other field is concerned and how racist it is. Enough already. No one is entitled to anything depending on their color.

Umm, Alex, you do realize how most African Americans got to this country, right? Or did you skip that chapter in American history? You can hardly call the U.S. a “white” country anymore. We are a melting pot and the models should reflect that. It doesn’t make sense to complain about a lack of black models in Japan or China because they don’t have a substantial black population like the U.S. has.

I’m so sick and tired of black models like Johnson complaining about the runways being “too white” ETC. If white designers, who’s clients are overwhelmingly white, want to use European models instead of African models, too bad! Go and live in Africa if you want to see black African faces. Stop going to an indigenous European nation, or other western nations and complain about it being “too white”! Blacks wouldn’t dare go to an Asian nation and complain about a lack of black models in Japan or China. ETC. likewise with Asian models working in Africa. But white nations, and suddenly we should bend over backwards for them!
