If you want to learn about style from one of Soho’s chicest residents and her ultra fashionable posse of friends, check out Erin Hazleton’s blog: The People I Like

When you run across a profile of me there, an old tune may run through your head: “One of these things is not like the other…” I’m totally flattered to be grouped with such an elite crowd, not to mention blushing over all the nice stuff Erin wrote about me.

I’m thinking, instead of work on today’s assignments, I’ll gush over her a bit—a very simple task.

The Top Ten Things I Like About Erin:

1. Even as a teenager, teetering on stilettos from NYU to Tear Sheet’s office, she had fabulous style. I could look at her instead of the pages ofVogue or Harper’s Bazaar to see what was going on in fashion.

2. More importantly, she had brains, talent, and organizational skills. I’d found my ideal assistant.

3. Better still, she had zero attitude.

4. When it came time for me to get married, she kindly turned from editorial assistant to wedding assistant without missing a beat (or a bow, or a seat assignment, or chance to keep the bride from losing her pearls, marbles, etc).

5. After Tear Sheet, when she started covering Fashion Week across the globe and writing for Fashion Wire Daily and the Boston Globe, she didn’t forget about me.

6. In fact, she has continually credited me for helping launch her writing career, which makes my six long years at Tear Sheet worth it.

7. Even though she has as much wisdom to share as I, she lets me play mentor and big sis.

8. She babysat her entire neighborhood as a kid, which makes her awfully helpful with the wee ones—even in the French Alps, when there is fresh powder to be had.

9. She found her soulmate—which validated my hopeful promises that she would find her soulmate—and he’s awesome in everyone’s eyes, not only hers.

10. She used my drug-free labor trick, which I refer to as “moaning,” and gave it a nice euphemism: “humming.”

I figured 10 wouldn’t quite do it, Erin is also a fantastic mom, with one of those picture perfect families that look like they stepped out of a photo shoot all of the time (even though Erin claims there have been some disheveled overnight flights, I haven’t seen any evidence). She also has outdone me in holding fast to the gypsy life (no small feat) after adding accessories that spit up and explode without notice.

Stay tuned. One day I know I’ll be posting a review of her novel right here.
